The dealership, at
FourFront Design architect Heather Rederth to the standards of the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design program of the U.S. Green Building Council, which offers several levels of certification demonstrating a project's low impact on the environment.
Jerry Jasinski, who along with Kevin Randall owns the Toyota dealership and Rapid Chevrolet, said concern for the environment is "in the genes" of the company, which now has a range of hybrid vehicles and is working on an electric version of its RAV4 sport utility vehicle.
Jasinski said the dealership was built with local materials, has a geothermal heating system and captures rainwater in a way that reduces silt runoff into the storm sewer system.
"It's all about what kind of footprint you have on your community," he said. Retail Construction Services of Minnesota was the contractor.
